Coming not-so-soon...

Cry of the Ancients Launch Notification

March 3, 2010

We know it’s been a long time. Too long in fact, and we’re sorry for that. The simple fact is that Cry of the Ancients will not be live again anytime soon. However, if there’s enough interest in bringing it back, we might be inclined to begin working on it sooner rather than later. Enter your email address below and you will be added to the list of people to be contacted when and if Cry of the Ancients goes live again.

We understand that if you’ve been waiting, you’re probably upset over the apparent lack of progress. But bills don’t pay themselves and we never charged a dime for this game. There’s only so much time in the day to get things done and this is at the bottom of the priority list.

Do you happen to know of any kind of ETA? It would be nice to know when it would be ready to be tested/released.

I’m still working out a number of logistical issues with the code. All of the front end and middle tier is being rewritten from the ground up, but a lot of the back end is going to stay the same. Unfortunately, the entire forum needs to be rewritten so that’s part of what’s taking so long.

I really thought that I’d be in a position to relaunch by the end of December, but as each day passes, that looks less and less likely.

Why not just use a free message board?

  5. admin September 28, 2010

Because it’s built into the core of the game. It’s not a question of licensing. It’s a question of integrating it properly for decent game flow.

I guess its not going to be December from the looks of it. We are a couple of days away from Dec, do you have any progress that you can share?

Yeah! Keep us updated. I have been periodically checking this site through the years. I miss the game so freakin much!

Well being one of the first and during it’s heyday the most powerful players in the game I too have been watching over the years and must say am deeply disgusted by the false promises related to this game getting back online. After the community treated you with respect Mike I think we deserved a little more don’t you.

any status update for the addicted ones who keep checking the site, missing the good action and fun we had playing COTA?

I have a contractor who’s working on rebuilding the forum software. He says he’ll be done this week, but I think it’s going to be at least another 2 weeks before it’s completed.

Once that’s done and the forums API is in place, I’ll be looking to outsource the code to someone who actually has the time to do it. I don’t expect to start that until the end of May. But whomever I find will likely be dedicated to the code conversion full time or pretty close to it. That will help to move things along, but I don’t have anything else to report as-yet.

If your looking for a programmer for the game, shoot me an email. Depending on what’s involved and languages used and what-not, I may be able to contribute in my spare time. :)

Thanks for the offer Timothy. Chances are I’ll take you up on it for beta testing, but the developer I brought on is fairly sharp and is working on things for me full-time at this point.

    Still nothing? :(
